My experience as a chemistry major
I would say that I have had a great experience as a chemistry major. I have built great connections with the faculty and other chemistry majors that has helped me grow as a chemist. My research and academic advisor, Dr. Ellison, is always available to talk about our research and my life plans. After graduation I plan on going to graduate school to receive my PhD in chemistry. This process was new and daunting to me and Dr. Ellison and other professors at Ursinus have helped to guide me in the right direction.
About our research
Our research is interested in studying the motion of ions through carbon nanotubes. We believe that ions travel through the nanotubes at a rate defined by quantum mechanics, and we study the pore-blocking events to gain a better understanding of how the ions interacts with the tube and for the potential our research has in real world applications, such as drug delivery and desalination.
Spending this summer working on this project has given me a better insight on what my life will be like in graduate school and beyond. Needless to say, it was a great, rewarding experience.
Life after Ursinus
