Co-Founders of Ones Up
Put your ones up! That’s been our mantra, the foundation for our beliefs, ever since our Ursinus days. It means that we’re one and we’re rising together. We use community engagement to help young people turn their passion into their profession; to create and follow their own career paths. That’s no accident. It’s embedded in the culture at Ursinus.
Ones Up grew out of the Rising Sons initiative we started at Ursinus. It’s a community service organization that aims to build young male and female leaders, and address issues affecting underprivileged populations. We use community engagement as a workforce development tool to help young people turn their passion into their profession. By helping people determine what career they want to pursue and what skills they possess, we’re enabling them to create and follow their own career paths.
We measure our impact based on how many of our members go off to college, get jobs, and even start their own businesses. Our approach is more diverse and universal. We focus on the skills and talents of the individual in order to provide rigorous personal and professional development through civic engagement.
Through Ones Up, we spearhead community service projects, run youth programs, and sponsor workshops. We would always tell people to “put their ones up.” It means that we’re one and we’re rising together. It became our slogan, and it’s on our shirts. It’s part of a culture we created, and it’s part of our beliefs we’ve held ever since we were at Ursinus.
