The Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs is a member of the Student Affairs team.  The successful candidate will join a dynamic staff dedicated to the development and well-being of students.  The main focus of the GA position is to provide and support prevention education on topics including drugs and alcohol, mental health, healthy relationships, sexual violence, and overall wellness issues. Additionally, the GA will participate in the conduct process.  The Graduate Assistant reports to an Assistant Director in Residence Life who reports to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life.

This position is generally a 20 hours per week position, including business hours, some evenings and weekends. The preferred start date for this position is August 1, 2019. It is a ten month position (August 1 – June 1).

Ursinus College is a highly selective, residential college with 1,600 students and is among the top 100 national liberal arts colleges in the United States. The College has 65 buildings on a campus of 180 acres located in the suburbs of Philadelphia in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.


There are two main areas of responsibility for this position, each with specific tasks:

  1. Educational Programs & Outreach
  • Coordinate Event Director program logistics including room reservations, advertising & registration process, supply orders, automated email responses, and technology enhancements
  • Attend Event Director Training sessions in the fall semester; lead Event Director Training sessions in the spring semester
  • Coordinate weekly communication with Event Directors regarding social event expectations and Pre- and Post-Event form submissions
  • Prepare Student Leader Facilitation Guides for RAs and other student leaders to use for hall/group programs
  • Facilitate Risk Management and other Wellness-related programs to Student Affairs student staff, first-year students, and Greek organizations as requested
  • Administer the Campus Health Assessment survey and prepare a preliminary findings report from the reported data
  1. Conduct Process & Mediation
  • Serve as a conduct officer for low-level, first offense cases
  • Coordinate and teach the alcohol education class
  • Facilitate e-Chug and e-Toke meetings with students and make referrals as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records in Maxient for student sanctions involving the alcohol education class, e-Chug, and/or e-Toke
  • Facilitate roommate and conduct process-initiated meditations using best practices

Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will:

  • Attend various weekly departmental meetings
  • Serve as a visible role model in the community by attending events and dining on campus
  • Research evidence-based practices and make recommendations for change or improvement as requested

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a master’s program required. Enrollment in a program related to higher education, psychology, or counseling strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to student development including the ability to research best practices and assess student learning
  • Demonstrated initiative to solve problems and create and implement new ideas or programs
  • Ability to present to small and large groups
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team


A stipend for the duration of the contract (August 1 – June 1), a 1-bedroom furnished apartment, which includes all utilities and internet. A meal plan consisting of 10 meals weekly during semesters.  There is no tuition credit for this position.
