Kara Travis
About:
Kara’s interest in teaching began in middle school when she started volunteering at her local dance studio. Helping younger dancers learn ballet, tap, and jazz became the highlight of Kara’s week, and led her years later to pursue teaching certification at Ursinus College. During the fall 2017 semester, Kara student taught 11th and 12th grade classes at Souderton Area High School. Kara graduated in spring 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and PA Level I teaching certification (grades 7-12).
Impact of Ursinus:
I believe that my education at Ursinus College has prepared me to be the best teacher I can be. From the Education Department’s emphasis on teaching for understanding and backwards planning, I have learned how to create meaningful and engaging lessons. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to reflect on what education and educators should do through Summer Fellows and Honors research. I am immensely grateful to my professors for their mentorship and encouragement, and I am looking forward to beginning my career as an educator.
