Background

Kristen English, Psy.D. is a Pennsylvania licensed psychologist who specializes in psychotherapy with college students and young adults. Kristen describes her clinical orientation as psychodynamic in theory and integrative in practice. She draws from attachment and relational theories and cognitive-behavioral concepts with close attention to current and historical social and cultural factors affecting her clients’ developing sense of self. Kristen’s work is further influenced by mindfulness perspectives, and she encourages clients to explore their patterns of compassion, vulnerability, and curiosity (within themselves and toward others) as they language their personal narratives and identify areas of personal meaningfulness. Kristen’s clinical interests include working with issues of depression and anxiety, trauma, grief and bereavement, and identity development and time-of-life transitions. As part, Kristen has worked extensively with students exploring the impact of their racial, ethnic, and LGBQIA and transgendered identities upon their developing sense of self. Prior to joining Ursinus College’s Wellness Center, Kristen served as a psychotherapist in the counseling centers for Chestnut Hill College, Norwich University, and Haverford College. Kristen also worked as a licensed psychologist and clinical director with Penn Psychiatric Center, where her experience included extensive work with children and young adults on the autism spectrum.

In addition to her clinical training, Kristen’s understanding of adolescent and young adult development and relationships has been influenced by her experiences as a college women’s lacrosse coach. Kristen coached lacrosse with the Claremont Colleges in southern California and with Swarthmore College throughout her years of graduate school and post-graduate training.
