Overview

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for helping to develop and implement, under the direction of the Executive Director, plans to meet and increase annual giving revenue goals from Ursinus constituents, with an emphasis on classes celebrating milestone reunions and other affinities related to the college experience. The Assistant Director shall demonstrate a focused and strong work ethic so that annual revenue goals are met, the ability to collaborate with others and manage volunteers, the ability to identify, cultivate and solicit reunion prospects with the potential to make leadership annual gifts in honor of their reunions, as well as creativity and strategy in developing and evaluating a “best of class” reunion giving program. The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Annual Giving staff participating in annual giving planning, scheduling, segmentation and messaging.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the college’s reunion giving program, with an emphasis on classes celebrating the 5th through 45th reunions and conducts analysis of and measures program effectiveness.
    • Identifies, recruits and trains reunion committee volunteers.
    • Plans and leads regular committee meetings for each class reunion committee, either in-person or by telephone conference call
    • Assists with planning and formulating strategy for each reunion class to reach class fundraising and participation goals.
    • Collaborates with Annual Giving and Alumni Relations teams to create mailings, e-solicitations and social media outreach to classes celebrating milestone reunions to encourage engagement and giving.
    • Analyzes results and reports fundraising progress and registration updates to volunteers.
    • Collaborates with Alumni Relations team to create and implement appealing reunion programming and events.
    • Updates web pages related to reunions and reunion giving
    • Assists with staffing reunion programs and events
  • Spearheads other fundraising efforts, especially affinity based initiatives, such as Greek alumni giving campaigns, music alumni fundraising campaigns, athletic alumni fundraising campaigns, etc.,
    • Develops a strategy and implements a marketing plan including mailings, e-solicitations, and events to increase giving participation and dollars from among these constituencies.
  • Manages a prospect pool of 30-40 moderate level annual fund donors, many of whom are members of reunion classes, with the goal of upgrading those donors by directly soliciting and closing gifts at the 1869 Society level (the college’s annual fund leadership club), and when possible conducting in-person meetings with prospects.
  • Attends all relevant staff meetings and other departmental or college meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience (2-3 years) as an annual giving professional or working, interning, or volunteering in a development department or fast-paced customer service, public relations, or marketing organization
  • Demonstrated success in managing volunteers and solicitation of annual gifts and a willingness and comfort level with cold calling to obtain both prospect meetings and gifts.
  • Knowledge and experience working with The Raiser’s Edge database system
  • Strong desire to build a career in higher education
  • Knowledge of Ursinus College mission and programs and understanding and appreciation of a private liberal arts education
  • Ability to think critically, strategically, and creatively about the tasks and progress of the Annual Fund, with emphasis on reunion giving, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative information and metrics into decision making
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, produce quality work, and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and highest commitment to accuracy and thoroughness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding customer service skill, ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with both external and internal constituents
  • Strong computer skills, and the ability and willingness to learn new software and technologies
  • Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in handling of confidential information
  • Independent initiative as well as an ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Work Environment:

  • Ability to sit for long periods at personal computer performing related functions
  • Occasional travel to attend events or meetings
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary

Departmental Accountabilities:

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and team members in the Advancement Office and throughout the college. Participates in Advancement Office meetings and other key college staff meetings
  • Possesses knowledge and experience with computer programs that support the Advancement Department including Microsoft Office programs and Raiser’s Edge
