I conducted research with Dr. Bish on OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) and ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), working with EEG technology (the recording of electrical activity along the scalp) and behavioral measures. I extended my research to Summer Fellows in the summer of 2013.
Jessica Peterson gained greater understanding of behavioral disorders by working with technology that studied brain neurons.
What Was Valuable About the Experience
I was involved in the research process from beginning to end, looking at past studies, creating my own study, conducting my own study, and examining the results.
The Coolest Part of the Experience
I formed a strong relationship with my mentor and the other students in my lab. We supported and helped each other as we learned together. Also, I loved sharing my results from something I had worked so hard on. That was a very cool experience and I felt proud of what I had accomplished.
Who I Met that Made a Difference
I became a lot closer with my advisor, and he became more of a mentor to me. I also became closer with the other psychology faculty, which is nice because I can go to them with questions and talk to them about graduate school opportunities.
