Suzanne Chong

Background

Born and raised in culturally diverse Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. Suzanne ChuChian Chong is multi-lingually fluent in English, Malay, and Cantonese. Dr. Chong utilizes her familiarity with immigration and acculturative processes in her professional work with culturally informed practices that have an emphasis on social justice. In addition, Dr. Chong’s work in trauma-informed outreach programs for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault has led her to conceptualize concerns related to stress, anxiety and depression, as closely intertwined with unresolved trauma, interpersonal relationship dissatisfaction, and ineffectual coping strategies. Dr. Chong works to build a safe, accepting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship with a strong focus on exploring individual, familial, and cultural resilience and strengths. She strives to facilitate client’s awareness and knowledge of adaptive coping skills, strengthen cognitive insight, embrace self-empowerment and self-efficacy, while initiating and sustaining meaningful relationships.
