My name is Marianella Vilches and I am the Fulbright Spanish TA for 2020-2021. I am from Quilmes, a beautiful city 30 minutes away from Buenos Aires City (Argentina).
After graduating from high school, I studied History at Universidad de Buenos Aires and at the same time obtained my degree as a Teacher of English. I am currently specializing in Literary Studies and Applied Linguistics at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, also in Buenos Aires. I’m also considering pursuing a Master degree in Academic Literacy.
As a teacher, I have worked in schools where students speak more than one language, finding in the same classroom speakers of Guaraní and Aymará. The cultural richness and the exchange of thoughts which stem from these encounters motivates me to promote spaces of reflection and critical analysis through projects where students can relate their everyday life with English language.
As well as teaching English at Secondary schools, I also direct creative writing workshops: poetry, tales, letters, and haikus. In addition, I organize monthly book clubs where we discuss different Argentinian and Latin-American authors. I also participate in Poetry Slams contests with my own poetry. As you can see, I am very passionate about languages and literature. And films as well!
I believe that learning a language is learning how to express oneself: an opportunity to share ideas, thoughts and experiences of others. The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program represents to me not only an opportunity to continue developing myself as a professional in different teaching contexts; but it also represents an unforgettable encounter among cultures that would help me acquire new ways to understand the world.
I am eager to help you as you pursue your Spanish studies; feel free to contact me if you want to chat!
