Overview
The Assistant Director of Campus Safety is a key member withing the department of campus safety that manages the day-to-day operations of the campus safety office, supervises the campus safety staff, and directs, prioritizes, and oversees work assignments.
This position requires the ability to serve in an on-call capacity and is expected to be available for occasional nights, weekends, special events, and shift coverage. This position is classified as essential personnel and will be expected to respond to incidents if the need arises.
Responsibilities
Directs and oversees Campus Safety Officers:
- Oversees all shift activity, scheduling, and daily operations; ensures that appropriate coverage is maintained 24/7; will be required to cover campus safety officer shifts as needed if unable to secure other shift coverage
- Trains and supervises campus safety employees, including student workers; assists in the recruitment process
- Prepares staff performance evaluations for review and approval by the Executive Director; initiates and documents disciplinary action when necessary
Parking Administration and Special Event Planning:
- Assists in supervising special events and coordinates safety officer schedules; prepares safety and evacuation plans
- Participates in major campus events; including student orientation and check in, Family Day, Homecoming, and Commencement
- Oversees campus parking; to include supervision of the parking manager, Special event parking management, permit registration process, violations and appeals, billing, and record keeping
Department Administration:
- Reviews and edits daily incident reports and ensures proper notifications are made as necessary. Prepares comprehensive reports if needed.
- Assists in the planning, preparation, and implementation of new policies and procedures, training, and emergency plans
- Coordinates equipment, technology, and vehicle upkeep and maintenance; oversees annual equipment inspection and inventory
- Oversees the College’s compliance with annual evacuation drills and safety training
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
- Experience in the development and implementation of security, safety and disaster preparedness and response desirable.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and celebration for diversity
- Strong understanding and passion for a residential liberal education
- Sensitivity to and understanding of contemporary higher education issues including but not limited to Sexual Violence, Mental Health, Race, Transgender Rights
- Commitment to student development approach and philosophy
- Collaborative and transparent approach to problem-solving
Preferred Skills and Competencies
Certifications: Preferred certifications are listed here; some can be obtained upon hire and completed within first 12 months of employment
- Maintain current Professional Rescuer CPR Certification
- Bi-Annual certification in Narcan administration.
- Obtain and maintain certifications in the following areas:
- NIMS ICS-100c
- NIMS ICS-363 “ICS for Higher Education”
- NIMS ICS-700b “
- NIMS ICS 0020 “Diversity Awareness”
- NIMS ICS-907 “Active Shooter”
- NIMS ICS-360 “Prep for Mass Casualty”
- Proficient in the use of a Tourniquet and Triage Tags for mass casualty incidents.
- Attend annual Title IX training with option to become Title IX Investigator
- Become a part of the SMART Team at Ursinus College
- Attend annual Ally Training
- Attend annual training on students with disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Ability to become certified in Emergency Response through the American Red Cross within 12 months of hire.
- Obtain Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector response and administration certification through the American red cross within 12 months of hire
