“Experiencing research fulltime teaches student how to overcome challenges and prepare for presentation.”
I worked in Dr Lyczak’s lab doing research on the development ofcaenorhabitis elegans, specifically looking at the puromycin-sensitive aminopeptidase , pam-1, and it’s role in the embryonic stages of C. elegans.
Summer Fellows allowed me to experience working in a research setting full time. I was able to continue the work I had been doing throughout the previous semester and put my full effort into it for eight weeks. Now I have a good basis for the honors research I plan to do senior year.
The Coolest Part of the Experience
One of the best parts of the experience was actually getting results for the final presentation. As researchers know, what can go wrong will and I faced many challenges throughout the summer. But by the end I was able to pull what I had together and have impacting results.
Who I Met that Made a Difference
I already knew the people that I was working with over the summer but I did become a lot closer with them from being together 8 hours a day for 8 weeks. I also know the professors in the biology department a lot better as well and feel comfortable to go to anyone of them for help.
