Most Memorable Moment in Class

I experienced an “aha” moment when reading Descartes’ Discourse on the Method. I was exposed to this sort of deconstructive method of self-reflection and critical thought that I hadn’t really specifically thought about until reading it in a concrete piece of literature. Now I use these sorts of methods in my own life all the time.

How CIE helped me form personal connections on campus:

CIE helped me to realize the opinions and arguments of my peers and how they ultimately affect my own. I feel as though I got to know my fellow classmates on a much deeper level as a result of the discussions we had in class and following common events.

How did CIE change or challenge your view on something?

After reading Mohsin Hamid’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, I was able to begin to break free from a rather close-minded American perspective concerning the events of 9/11, and was able to apply these concepts of cultural relativism and consideration of varying cultural perspectives when considering other situations and ideologies.

What you should know about CIE…

This program will challenge what you’ve been raised to think, allowing you to begin a career of critical thinking and self-reflection that will last throughout your Ursinus career and for the rest of your life.
