Gap Year and Service
“It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.”
- Tom Brokaw
Consider doing a year of service after graduation. You can help yourself by helping others for a year or more. A service year can provide excellent life experience, affording for job training that wouldn’t otherwise be possible for recent grads. In addition to boosting self-confidence, it can be a wonderful vehicle for learning more about long-term career interests and goals. A service year can also help you develop and test new skills such as working with people, time management, working independently, problem solving, coping, and managing a project. Most importantly, it provides a chance to make a difference in the world without the burdens of debt and obligation.
