Reverend Charles Rice
Reverend Charles Rice, or “Rev. Rice” to those that knew him, joined the Ursinus community as the college chaplain in 1997.
Throughout his 20 years at the college, he advised generations of students, many of whom credit him with helping them find their life’s purpose. Rice raised the visibility and impact of religion, spirituality and social justice on campus, which quickly expanded beyond services and campus events. His teachings and mentorship continued to build roots in the classroom where he taught CIE and courses such as The African American Religious Experience. His sudden passing in April 2017 left the Bear community devastated; however, his legacy lives on at Ursinus through the Rev. Charles Rice Memorial Scholarships, the Charles Rice Post-Graduate Fellowship, and through the many people who knew him.
