If you had accommodations or supports in high school for a disability, those accommodations and/or support may not automatically apply at the college level. The criteria for eligibility for accommodations for post-secondary institutions can be different than those for K-12. However, the Director of Disability Services will work with you to understand the differences and answer any questions you may have.
What does Ursinus College offer to students with disabilities?
The Ursinus programs that exist for all students are made accessible to students with documented disabilities. We strive the incorporate universal design principles across services and programs at Ursinus College.
Peer Mentoring Program for Students with Disabilities: Beginning in the Fall of 2020, students will have the opportunity to request a peer mentor to provide support in adjusting to college life, academically and socially.
Academic Coaching: Academic Coaching is a program where students can have the opportunity to engage with a peer mentor or staff in structured meetings throughout the semester to learn strategies to enhance executive functioning skills such as time management and organization, study skills, test-taking skills, and strategies for communicating with professors.
How to Request Accommodations
- Step 1: Complete the Accommodation Request Form.
- Either email the form and any supporting documentation to email@example.com or mail the form and any supporting documentation to: Dr. Dolly Singley, Institute for Student Success, 601 E. Main Street, Collegeville, PA 19426
- Step 2: Provide current documentation, which meets the appropriate documentation requirements. In general, documentation should include testing/assessments completed by an independent properly credentialed professional in the applicable field and include recommendations for accommodations.
- Step 3: Complete an intake with the Director of Disability Services.
- The intake will take about one hour and is an opportunity for you to discuss your understanding of your academic strengths, needs, and symptoms/conditions. The determination of reasonable accommodations is an interactive process between the Disability Services Team and the student.
- Once the intake is complete, and the Director has received any further documentation, the Disability Services will review and consider all documentation submitted. Documentation is primarily used to assist in developing a link from the functional impacts of the disability identified to the reasonable accommodation requested. Reviewing documentation is a collaborative process and is handled on a case-to-case basis. Reviewing documentation can take time, and students should expect to receive information on any approved accommodations within 4-6 weeks of submitted documentation.
