Student Employment

The Institute for Student Success seeks outstanding student leaders to provide academic support in a variety of methods. See below for application materials. 

The ISS employs students as academic coaches, subject tutors, and recitation leaders.

Academic Coach:

Our academic coaching program is designed to help students develop academic skills throughout their college career and beyond. Peer Academic Coaches are advanced standing students that have demonstrated outstanding academic skill in their educational journey.

Qualifications:

  • Cumulative GPA - 3.5 Minimum.
  • Recommendation for Faculty.

Subject Tutors:

Subject tutors meet regularly with assigned students to practice material, offer academic strategies, and instill confidence in particular subjects while promoting the student’s overall academic success. Tutoring is not a teaching role per se, but a position for you to craft positive practice and learning environments with other students. Tutors will also facilitate weekly drop in sessions, as well as content driven workshops in their subject of expertise.

Qualifications:

  • B+ average or better in chosen field of tutoring.
  • Recommendation for Faculty.

Recitation Leader:

Recitation Leaders lead group discussions about biology concepts and teach students a variety of learning skills that can be used to succeed in Ursinus academics. Leaders are assigned to two lab sections of BIO-101Q and will perform weekly workshops for all students.

Qualifications:

  • B+ or better in BIO-101.
  • Recommendation for Faculty.

Qualifications for ALL Positions:

  • Familiarity with how to navigate/use support services at Ursinus.
  • Able to explain concepts in a multitude of ways.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Awareness of your own academic skills and their development.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to improvise and ask questions.

For New Applicants:

As part of the application process, students must secure a faculty recommendation. If you are applying for multiple subjects and/or multiple roles, only one faculty recommendation is needed. You may chose the faculty member that is most appropriate to speak of your skills and fit for the position(s). Within the application, you will see a link to the faculty recommendation form. You MUST send this link to the faculty member that will be creating your recommendation. Faculty Recommendation Form


For Returning Applicants:

You MUST fill out an application to be considered for tutoring/coaching every academic year. Please choose “Returning” as your application status while filling out the form. You DO NOT need to secure a faculty recommendation as a returning applicant.

Applications Due Friday, February 17 @ 11:59 PM

After your application has been received, your credentials will be verified and if you are chosen to advance in the process, a representative from the ISS will contact you to set up an interview.
