Supporting Inclusive Excellence

The Supporting Inclusive Excellence (SIE) Scholarship awards $8,500/year to students interested in pursuing biology, neuroscience or biochemistry and molecular biology (BCMB) and experience significant financial need.

SIE brochureUrsinus is proud to offer the Supporting Inclusive Excellence (SIE) Scholarship to students entering in fall 2021 and fall 2022. The SIE scholarship is for students who:

  • Have sustained academic excellence in high school with rigorous curriculum and GPA of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale
  • Have an interest in pursuing biology, neuroscience or biochemistry and molecular biology (BCMB)
  • Experience significant financial need

 

The grant awards 10 admitted Ursinus students each year an additional $8,500/year, on top of their merit and need-based aid awarded by the college. In addition to the scholarship, SIE Scholars will have access to specific programming and support to foster their academic success throughout their academic career, including, but not limited to:

  • Individual advising focused on each individual’s career goals
  • The opportunity to compete for summer research funds for the summer prior to their freshman, sophomore or junior years
  • The opportunity to compete for funds for travel to internships, externships, or to professional meetings to present their research
  • Opportunity to meet scientists of diverse backgrounds on and off campus
  • A four-day January preparedness workshop for the second semester biology course. This unique course developed at Ursinus has received high praise from scholarship students in the past and has been replicated at other colleges
  • Opportunity to take Learning to Lead, a newly developed course designed for students of diverse backgrounds to explore all of their career options and develop into leaders in science

First generation college students and students from underserved populations are particularly invited to apply. Students applying to the college Early Action (EA) and Early Decision (ED) must apply for the scholarship by January 1; Students who apply Regular Decision (RD) must apply by February 1. Students must submit the FAFSA at the time that they apply in order to be considered.
