Idioms But No Words
by Florrie Stoop

I don’t know what it is

I couldn’t say to you, but

I know I saw the cat slinking off

with my tongue.

Your glances were cold,

frozen, like the lake

that could hold the weight

of the conversations I should have

kept buried in my cheek

but not the weight of

our skates.

I don’t know what it was

about where we were then,

but I think I’ve got the flesh

from both of our teeth.
