BWC - First Year Dorm

The Residence Life staff at Ursinus College strives to provide you with a positive and educational living environment that will serve as your home away from home.

About First Year Housing

First-year students live together within various residence halls on campus. This allows you to live in close proximity to other students who are experiencing the celebrations and challenges of college life for the first time, just like you. Resident Advisors are student leaders who are carefully selected to live and work with first-year students. Additionally, the Assistant Director for First-Year Centers devotes particular attention to community development efforts and programs for this community.

You will see the First-Year Centers, learn about our community values, and start discussing how we should live together on our campus when you attend May Orientation. After Orientation, you’ll have the opportunity to convey your living and roommate preferences to our staff. Most first-year students live in double or triple rooms, so you should plan to have a roommate!

Students who complete the Housing Preference Questionnaire (HPQ) on time will receive their housing assignment and roommate information in July.

what to bring your first year and other FAQS

What is the Housing Preference Questionnaire?

The Housing Preference Questionnaire is an online form used as a guide by the Residence Life staff in room and roommate assignment process. It should be filled out by all incoming first-year students. Please answer the questions as honestly as possible. If you have a specific person in mind as a roommate, please note that everyone needs to request each other perfectly on the questionnaire in order for the match process to work. It is each student’s responsibility to confirm roommate preferences prior to completing this form. You may log into the survey multiple times to make changes.

The HPQ form opens up after May Orientation for the fall semester. Students who do not complete the form on time will be placed on a wait list and assigned to rooms after other students in the class.

If you have a medical condition or disability that you believe impacts your housing, please schedule a meeting with our director, Dr. Dee Singley, Director of Disability Services in the Division of Inclusion and Community Engagement no later than Wednesday, June 15.

If you have questions, you can email Dee at

Residence Life staff will send an email to your Ursinus email account during the first full week of July with your room assignment and contact information for your roommate(s). We encourage you to contact your roommate(s) prior to your arrival on campus. Please remember that we do not make room changes over the summer.

Accessing the Housing Preference Questionnaire

You will need to enter your username and password in order to fill out your form. Your username is the first part of your Ursinus email address (do not include “”) and your password is the same as you use to access email. Do not enter your full Ursinus email address to log in - you must only enter the portion that contains your name.

How to access the HPQ

The HPQ will be accessible through the student portal from Friday, May 27 at 5 p.m. until Monday, June 6 at 1 p.m. Students who complete the HPQ during this timeframe will have their preferences processed before students who complete the HPQ after the deadline. After Monday, June 6, please contact the Office of Residence Life to share your housing preferences.
